Human Loss; Birds' Gain

I was surprised after I cropped this picture to see the Pelicans gathered at one end of the pier while Laughing Gulls and an occasional stray bird lined the longer unbroken end. Pre-Isaac the end of the pier would have held several people fishing.

Birds of a Feather

Long Beach Harbor, Long Beach, MS. Photo taken January 2012 and edited in Picasa. This is a typical, yet beautiful and relaxing scene to see different species of Gulf Coast birds interacting or sharing a close environment. Pelicans are my favorite bird of all because their beaks give them the appearance of always smiling; but smiling in such a way that they appear to know a secret. Laughing gulls are plentiful and entertaining.

Ms Deena and Daughter

Walking past Ms Deena and her daughter, I remarked that my daughter and I used to walk together on the beach. Now, she is grown and in college. (I had heard Ms Deena's daughter tell her "Look, she's taking pictures of birds".) It was a pleasant exchange and these two were the beautiful birds of this walk.

It is an awesomely beautiful morning this Sunday, October 16th. The sky was that
mid blue shade that I love so much. As I was doing my wade-sand walk I can attest that the water was just slightly cool and clear near shore. The air smelled great.

October in the Mississippi Gulf Coast is worth putting up with a few months of high heat and humidity. We don't so much have the "changing colors of leaves" (nor leaf clean-up), but we do witness the migration of coastal birds.

We are blessed.

Who knows what Coastal Birds will be alive in future generations. Perhaps someday, an earth descendent will discover this photo and be amazed at how life was back in 2011.

Morning With the Pelicans

--Long Beach, MS-- October, 2011

The location of this Pelican group is the I-110 walk at Hwy 90, Biloxi (Near the Beaux Rivage). It is exciting watching them soar. There is something cleansing about it...

Long Beach Harbor, September 24, 2011

-Long Beach, MS-

My favorite photo of the day, Saturday, September 14th, 2011. The Great Blue Heron in flight was going post to post trying to gain possession of an already occupied post. I like this photo because it shows both Laughing Gulls and Great Blue Herons as well as human influence evidenced by the boat. It was a warm day, borderline hot. The water was cool. There was a light breeze.

Long Beach MS is located in Harrison County, the middle county of the 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast Counties. The towns from the western border are: Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi.
